Capstone Builds on "Reading Is For Everyone" Literacy Campaign in 2020

January 29, 2020

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Jan. 29, 2020 – Capstone, a leading publisher of children’s books and digital products and services, is continuing its celebration and advocacy for the importance of reading for all with its Reading Is For Everyone campaign in 2020. Launched last year, the campaign calls for educators, parents, and everyone who is passionate about literacy to work together to ensure every child feels the limitless power of reading, proudly recognizes themselves as a reader, and sees themselves in the stories they read to feel connected and to grow, learn, and be inspired.

Renowned illustrator Hatem Aly, whose award-winning books include the Yasmin series by Saadia Faruqi, The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad and S. K. Ali, and The Inquisitor’s Tale by Adam Gidwitz, created artwork specifically for the Reading Is For Everyone campaign.

“The access to books can have a life changing effect on people of all ages and I am forever proud to have a part in promoting reading for everyone,” said Aly.

“We are once again celebrating our common rallying cry: Reading Is For Everyone! The art this year from acclaimed illustrator Hatem Aly is truly something special. While you will see a Capstone character or two incorporated in the artwork, Hatem’s artistry brings to life the most important part of the Reading Is For Everyone message – our readers. Our infinite variety of readers deserve books that reflect them – their interests, their abilities, their cultures, their families, their traditions – and inspire them to be curious and informed about the world around them,” said Patricia Stockland, Capstone Publisher.

As part of the campaign, Capstone will participate in a Drop Everything And Read hour on World Read Aloud Day, February 5, 2020. Starting at 10:00 a.m. (Central Standard Time), Capstone employees will put aside their work and read something of their choice for one hour. Schools are invited to join in the fun by posting photos of students reading on social media using the hashtag #ReadingIsForEveryone. Capstone will select random winners throughout the day to win reading prizes.

The Reading Is For Everyone website includes resources for educators and parents, including: helpful reading tips and articles, free downloadable posters and bookmarks, curated reading lists, a spotlight on #OwnVoices authors and illustrators, book trailers and videos, and more.
